Their hour long presentation included an initial discussion on the topic of patent reexamination and concurrent patent litigation strategies — one of the most important and rapidly developing topics in patent enforcement in the United States — and concluded with a lively question and answer session.
Associate Dean for Intellectual Property Law Studies John Whealan (former Solicitor of the USPTO and staffer to the Senate Judiciary Committee) was in attendance and asked questions relating to the time it takes to complete a reexamination (especially inter partes) and the quality of reexamination with regard to the recent ramp up in filings. The seminar was well received and built on a similar presentation made by Rob Sterne to the GWU students in 2009.
